Steve and Jaimee are gittin' hitched - this is their page!
This very simple site is here to provide information about the wedding, coming up on Sunday,
April 12 2015 in Trabuco Canyon (south Orange County). Sorry, Steve is not much of a
web designer.

E-Vite / RSVP
Directions
- Can I go?
- Yes!
- We're sending a general announcement, not individualized invitations, and you can find the
page here: E-Vite Wedding Page.
Please feel free to pass this onto anybody you think might wish to join us.
- No invitations?
- Nope: it's open to anybody who wishes to share the day with us. We're running the E-Vite RSVP system
just to get an idea who's coming, but it's not strictly necessary to RSVP.
- Can I bring my kids?
- This is entirely family friendly, so if they're old enough and fit enough to hike with us,
they are welcome to join us.
- Timeline
-
Only the first time is really pinned down: we'll likely send folks up in waves with our hiking escorts,
with the last one leaving around 3:40 to allow for a few latecomers.
-
- 3:30 PM; meet at the trailhead, groups start heading up
- ≈ 3:40 PM; last group escorted up
- ≈ 4:20 PM; ceremony and revelry
- ≈ 5:00 PM; start heading down
- ≈ 5:30 PM; start arriving at Cook's
- Is this a real hike?
- Absolutely.
- This is the regular Sunset Hikes meetup hike that Steve has led every Saturday for
more than a year, the hike where these two lovebirds met, and where the question was popped on
Valentine's Day of this year. It's a beautiful venue that means a lot to us.
- Will this be a religious ceremony?
- Yes; we are so pleased that our good friend and longtime hiking member Rev. Paul Aihara of The Wesleyan Church
in Lake Forest, will officiate our wedding.
-
This is a Christian service, but we believe all will find themselves welcome. It's hard not to
appreciate the beauty of God's creation as seen from Vista Point.
- Who's the maid of honor and best man?
- Jaimee's maid of honor is her daughter Keely
- Steve's best many is fellow hiker Janet Hyne, who he's known almost the
entire time he's been in Meetup.
- Do I have to join Meetup?
- No.
-
Our wedding is not a Meetup event per se, and all are welcome, but if you find the
trail, the views, and the people as wonderful as we have, joining Meetup and
then our group means you can play along with the rest of us!
-
Just go to SunsetHikes.com which redirects
to our group's page; once you sign up for Meetup once, you can join any groups
you like.
- Ok, so is it a hard hike?
- We rate this as "beginner plus". It's a mile and a half up, with about 600 feet of elevation
gain, and a few steep spots. If you hike regularly, or if you can walk a few miles at a time, you
can probably make the hike by taking it slowly - we won't be in a hurry, and we expect some of our
regular hikers will be available to escort you up (volunteers welcome!).
-
But if you're not accustomed to regular exercise, this might be a challenge, and the safer
course might be to join us at Cook's Corner after the hike.
- Can I check the trail out in advance?
- Sure, Steve is leading this hike twice before the wedding day, it's a great way to learn
the area and have a lovely time watching the sunset.
-
- We'd sure love to have you check us out - we have a wonderful variety of events for all levels.
- Cook's Corner - isn't that, like, a biker bar?
- Yep, and we love this place. The crowd is universally friendly, the food is good,
the beer is cold, the bands are hot, and our hiker friends have spent many an hour here.
It's totally safe and relaxing and fun.
- We'll be outside in the patio area after having commandeered some tables; the calendar
shows that Sling Shot will be playing mainly
classic rock. Bands at Cook's are universally good and great for dancing. They'll be
playing inside.
- The attire is "Hiker casual"?
- Absolutely; this is a hike, please dress accordingly. Steve is wearing his usual
hiking boots, shorts, and orange tshirt, and expect most guests to wear hiking shorts or
jeans.
-
If you're going on the hike itself, you really do need shoes with good traction: hiking
boots if you have them, tennis shoes probably ok too. No dressy shoes!
-
No tuxes or suits or ties. Really. Please. It's a hike!
- Where are you going on honeymoon?
- We're going to Paso Robles wine country, spending a few days in bed and breakfasts. It's
our favorite wine region and it will nice to get away for some quiet time together.
- Where are you registered?
- We're not.
-
We have everything we need and a small place to keep it all, and we
really don't want any gifts. Nothing would mean more to us than for you to be with us to share this
special time.
- So... can I bring anything?
- Just yourself please :-)
- But many have asked if they can do something, and it would be meaningful to us to
support one of our favorite local nonprofits, Naturalist For You.
-
Joel is highly respected in the local hiking community, and he leads many
programs that explore the area, learn how to identify and make use of
what's found in nature, and just to appreciate the beauty and wonder of
our beloved Santa Ana Mountains.
- His programs are worth attending and supporting.
- I'm a regular on this hike - are we bringing food?
- No; this is just a hike for the ceremony (and perhaps a ceremonial toast), then
we head to Cook's after. It's not a potluck.
- What's this with Steve and orange?
- Yes, Steve always hikes in orange.
- Initially it was an accident of wardrobe — it's not like his favorite color or anything —
but he kind of fell into it and adopted it as his hiking livery. It's been helpful for new hikers to
find the trailhead ("look for the tall guy in orange"), and he's simply run with it.
- I'm stuck / confused / have questions
- Send Steve an email at steve@unixwiz.net or call his cell 714-345-4571.
New to this trail?
Our regular hikers know how the trail works, but newcomers take note:
- There are NO restrooms available, either at the trailhead, on the trail, or at Vista Point.
Go before you go!
- OC Parks does not permit dogs anywhere on this trail; sorry Fido.
- There is absolutely no smoking anywhere on this trail - it's a fire hazard
- Bring water and a hat, plus sunglasses if you wear them
- Do NOT wear dressy shoes; part of the trail require good traction.
- You'll likely have good cellular coverage on this trail
- Hiking poles are not necessary, but if you have them, they might be useful in a few spots
We will ask that regular hikers step up and help welcome and guide our new visitors.
